Facing a terminal diagnosis can be a scary and deeply transformative experience. CircleSpace can help guide your way, offering information and support for you and your loved ones. We'll meet 3 to 5 times or more, depending on your needs.
Here are some ways we can help:
- Soften your fears and worries using visualization, meditation and other approaches
- Create a comfort plan to bring physical, emotional and spiritual peace (and even joy) to your final months and moments
- Define your legacy: what do you wish to leave for your loved ones, your community, the planet?
- Life completion: what feels unfinished? How can you seek closure?
- Put your affairs in order so you don't leave a mess for your loved ones
- Hold space for important conversations with your loved ones, doctors and other care providers
- Make your after death plans including care for your body and ceremony/funeral
- Create rituals: with music, readings and special objects, we'll hold space for you, your family and friends to mark milestones, ease your passage and honour your life
- Offer information and guidance to help you and your loved ones understand the physical and emotional dying process
- Vigiling: Siting quietly, peacefully at your bedside during the final hours of your life. We also offer guidance and support for your friends and family as they vigil
Preparing for a Medically Assisted Death (MAiD)
Preparing for a medically assisted death is a unique process, one that few people have experienced. Knowing the exact date and time of death brings many opportunities, but also some heavy decisions:
- How do you talk to loved ones about your choice?
- How do you prepare children for their loved one's assisted death?
- What if a friend or family member disagrees with medically assisted death? How do you maintain a loving relationship and focus on what matters most?
- What steps can you take to prepare emotionally?
- How can you stay present and grounded in the midst of this rapid change and impending death?
- What steps can you take now to soften your loved ones grief after your death?
- How do you say goodbye?
- What do you want to happen on the day of the death and the moment itself? Who will be there? What will happen?
Family Caregiver Support
Caring for a loved one through their end-of-life can be a full time job in terms of your time and your heartspace. As a family caregiver, you must navigate health and legal systems, lead difficult conversations, schedule home care and medical appointments, cook meals and chauffeur, all while trying to spend quality time with your loved one and live your own life. CircleSpace doulas are experienced health system navigators with deep knowledge of community services and businesses. We can help you:
- map out and prioritize your responsibilities
- connect with supports and resources
- create an action plan to make your job easier
- offer regular check-ins and emotional, physical and spiritual care for you, the caregiver
The workshop was fantastic… I would highly recommend it for anyone who had ageing parents, family members or who want to make sure their values and wishes for their own affairs are known and communicated. |
